My truck was showing the starting signs of major engine problems (gfy active fuel management and mid-2000s GM for that matter) so I traded it in and bought a hatchback. A turbocharged, manual, German hatchback.
It’s a 2012 GTI with 58,xxx miles and a 4-year, 48,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty (DeMuro.gif) for that extra peace of mind.
I didn’t think I’d ever buy a Volkswagen but here we are. I’ve had it less than 24 hours and i already love it.

Congrats! Everyone I know that owns a GTI loves it.

If I had to pick a new daily driver, that’d be at the top of the list.

Wait aren’t you a tech? At least you were familiar with working on GM vehicles. Not that a GTI is a bad choice, fun cars.

Did it come with a vape?
But seriously, these are fun. I had an MK5 GTI with the TSI engine. Super fun til the trans started going out.

Nice! I really want a MkV GTI but most of em are clapped out or too expensive:/

This is a twist I wasn’t expecting. Congrats!

Good choice. Every time I do an oil change on my truck I wax poetic about my previous MK6. The oil filter on them is sooooo easy to get to.

I opened the hood and about jumped for joy when I saw the filter sitting right there in the open.

After working on GM vehicles all day the last thing you want to do is work on your own GM vehicle.

Being a past GM person who also has a VW(Audi) product I fully support your decision. And as of the last week I left behind 30+ years of GM experience and went to working at a Hyundai shop. Times are changing.

Very nice! Congrats

Thanks!
Even bigger twist: none of the cars I was looking at were made by GM or anything bigger than a midsize Sedan.

Thank you!

Thanks! I’m enjoying it a lot so far. Last night while I was driving I just had a big dumb smile on my face the whole time.

Congratulations! I’ve been wanting one of those recently and am excited to here what it’s like to own!

Congrats!
Good choice on the 6 speed manuel.
Any plans for it?

Oh shit! Congrats that thing looks cool AF, LOVE that color. I have a thing for metallic greys, they show off those beautiful body lines.

Literally the excact reason i’m not gonna become a mechanic. I get enough of that fixing up own/family/race cars, don’t want to also spend most of the morning also staring at cars with issues...

Impressive. Sorry about the truck though...

Nice! The truck was nice, but you do what you gotta do sometimes.

Dsg or manual?
Edit: you said manual. Awesome. I had day, and it was kinda anticlimactic after a while

I’m sad about it because I really loved that truck but I think this is more than suitable as a replacement.

You only had it for a short length of time... I’m glad you changed brands.

I don’t know you, but I love my GTI.

Oooh. My coworker recently got a 2015 GTI, and she loves it. I’ve only sat in it, but it seems like a fun thing.

Nice. I like my 2013 pretty well, though I still prefer our MINI. I do like the wheels though. I have the same (snow wheels in the pic).

Good God for some reason I didn’t even realize you were still one here. And you got an awesome GTI!
